Techno Kids learn at play

On Tuesday 23 February, Ipswich children with physical disabilities and their families took advantage of a unique opportunity to trail life-changing assistive technologies as part of the Techno Kids Assistive Technology Playgroup.

Over the course of eight weeks children, aged 4-8 years participate in a range of fun-themed, play-based activities designed to allow each child to explore his or her potential.

Children get the opportunity to play with a variety of communication, mobility and assistive devices including modified toys, electronic speech generating devices and powered wheelchairs.

“For many of these children, technology will be the key to unlocking their hidden potential and will provide them with greater independence and freedom in future years,” CPL Occupational Therapist Miss Jackie Houston said.

These playgroups provide families with the opportunity to assess technologies suitability before making a major investment, which can range from $100 to $15,000 depending on the type of equipment.
