The Hopla Walker / Gait Trainer is another quality product manufactured by Alvema in Sweden. The Hopla encourages walking movements, improves opportunities for social interaction and can provide varying and changing levels of support from minimal to maximal to encourage the development of independence in walking skills. Available in two sizes, the Hopla is fully adjustable, with a wide range of accessories and endless possibilities.

The most distinctive feature of the Hopla is the padded Support Ring. Left and right sides of the black foam Support Ring swing up for easy entry. They then rotate down to form a padded pelvic ring. Quick release knobs easily provide height adjustment to allow the Support Ring to be positioned at the optimal height for each child. When down, the Support Ring encircles the child to provide a feeling of security as well as a tactile reference. The Support Ring allows for walking and gait movement within its confines, encouraging dynamic balance within safe limits.

The Hopla features a sturdy and attractive powder-coated steel frame with an extra-stable yet highly manoeuvrable design. Quick-release knobs allow for easy height adjustment with the use of the handy adjustment tool. Rear wheels feature friction brakes to allow the the tension on the walker wheels to be adjusted to add or reduce resistance to meet the child's changing needs.

With accessories as detailed below, the Hopla becomes more of a gait trainer than a simple walker. Accessories are sold separately to allow Hopla to be customised to suit each child's abilities.

HOPLA ACCESSORIES

Grip Rail

Helps maintain mid-line positioning of upper extremities. Facilitates better positioning by stabilising hands and arms from involuntary movement. Otherwise, uncontrolled upper body movement can cause lack of controlled gait development. Grip rail facilitates proper positioning. Functions like forearm prompts.

Saddle Seat

Provides additional support and comfort. Adjusts 10 cm in height.

Curved Saddle Seat

This banana-shaped seat allows for greater contact surface of lower pelvic to seat. The curved saddle also provides more adjustment opportunity for a child who has difficulty locating the "seat" for resting.

Seat Cushion

Fits over the saddle for softer padding when extra comfort is needed.

Trunk (Chest) Support

Offers anterior support and security. This allows the child to achieve a more forward-leaning position to encourage stepping.

Back Support

The back support helps to stabilise the hips and trunk. The extra positioning and security prevents the child from slipping backwards or leaning too far to the side and helps maintain an upright gait posture.

Feet Divider

This prevents the child from crossing their feet and in combination with the saddle encourages better foot positioning when stepping.

Push Handle

This ergonomic option helps the attendant to assist in gait training by assisting with steering, initiation of stepping and speed control.
